Online first aid courses

Uganda governs workplace first aid through the Occupational Safety and Health Act, No. 9 of 2006, which requires employers to provide a first-aid room or a compliant, readily accessible first-aid box (with an additional box for every further 50 persons above 150 employed). The person in charge must be trained in first-aid treatment, though no syllabus or duration is prescribed.

Uganda's Basic Requirements and Minimum Standards (BRMS) for ECD centres, from the Ministry of Education and Sports, list first-aid kits, trained staff and evacuation plans under emergency preparedness, and opening a daycare requires first-aid certification before local authorities issue a licence following inspection. No national renewal cycle is specified.

Uganda has no dedicated Good Samaritan Act and no general duty to rescue; as a common-law jurisdiction, the Penal Code Act (Cap. 120), ss. 199–203 and 223, imposes only narrow status-, charge- or dangerous-thing-based duties. The only statutory duty to render assistance, under the Traffic and Road Safety Act, 1998, s. 125, binds a driver involved in an accident, not bystanders.

In Uganda, nurses and midwives are regulated by the Uganda Nurses and Midwives Council (UNMC), which ties triennial licence renewal to continuing professional development, requiring registrants to maintain a CPD logbook of accredited activities. Accredited resuscitation/BLS training can count toward this CPD through an accredited provider.

In Uganda, care for older and vulnerable adults is provided largely through home-based care and private caregiving, where first aid and CPR are typically embedded in caregiver courses rather than fixed by a single national residential-care standard. Private home-care employers commonly expect caregivers and nursing assistants to hold first-aid and CPR training so they can respond to a resident in distress.

In Uganda, foster care is governed by the Children Act (Cap 62) and its 2016 amendment, under which a foster parent takes parental responsibility by care order and must be in good physical and mental health (verified by medical examination), with a clean record and a home found suitable by a probation and social welfare officer. First aid is not named as a stand-alone rule, but a current first-aid and CPR certificate from a recognized organization is commonly expected.

Online CPR and first aid training is recognized in Uganda; the Occupational Safety and Health Act prescribes neither a syllabus nor a delivery mode, so online theory combined with a practical assessment is accepted for the person in charge of first aid. Certification is valid for three years.
